We usually throw away the shell when we eat eggs, but in fact, the egg shell has many wonderful functions. Let's see which ones are available.
Main ingredients of egg shell
The shell is formed naturally. According to various modern scientific methods, the egg shell contains 83-85% calcium carbonate, 15-17% protein, and a variety of trace elements (zinc, copper, magnesium, iron, selenium, etc.), among which the content of heavy metal elements lead (Pb) and arsenic (As) harmful to human body is extremely low, all of which are less than 1 PPM. The weight of egg shell is about 5.2-5.4g, the thickness is 0.3-0.4mm, and the calcium content of each egg shell is 2-2.5g. The eggshell structure can be divided into five layers from the inside to the outside. The first layer is the inner layer of the eggshell (called Phoenix Cloth by the second part of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Its main components are complex proteins composed of fibrin, keratin and mucopolysaccharide, accounting for 15-17% of the total weight of the eggshell); The second layer of eggshell outer membrane; The third papillary conical layer; The fourth grid layer (sponge layer) and the fifth eggshell membrane. The formation process of eggshell is shellless egg - inner membrane (keratin membrane - protein fiber) - outer membrane (which is the basis of eggshell formation) - papillary layer - sponge layer (which determines the thickness and hardness of eggshell, CaCO3) - outer membrane (which is beneficial to maintaining the strength and freshness of the protective eggshell).
The structure of egg shell is porous. Generally, egg shell is porous and breathable to facilitate the metabolism of internal life evolution. Here, air permeability refers to air, including oxygen. Generally, newly laid eggs have a small air chamber. As the temperature decreases, the egg yolk contracts, and the air chamber becomes larger. With the increase of storage time, the consumption of nutrients and the evaporation of water, the air chamber will gradually increase. If the egg is a fertilized egg, when the air chamber exceeds 1/3, it will lose its hatching value.
The wonderful use of egg shell
- Wash clothes. You can crush the egg shell, put it into a thin cloth bag or silk stockings, and then put it into a basin and soak it in hot water for 5 minutes, and then take it out. Use this water to wash clothes, which is especially white and clean.
- Can be used as bleach. Most white handkerchiefs and tablecloths will turn yellow after being used for a long time. You can put the egg shells together and wash them carefully after boiling.
- Make skin delicate and smooth. Collect a layer of egg white in the egg shell, add a teaspoon of milk powder and honey, mix it into a paste. After washing your face at night, smear the mixed powder on your face, and wash it off after 30 minutes. This method will make your face smooth and delicate.
- Clean the dirt in milk bottles, button bottles and other bottles and oil drums. Grind the eggshell into powder, put it into ceramic ware, thermos bottle and glass bottle, add water and shake it left and right to remove dirt. If the oil stain is serious, put the eggshell and fill it with water for 1-2 days. Shake it for several times in the middle to clean the oil stain. This method is very effective for the cleaning of oil drums. It is a good way to clean the milk bottle. Because no detergent is used, it is the safest way to use it for babies.
- Clean the juicer. The stains on the blade of the juicer are difficult to clean and easy to hurt your hands. You can pour half an egg shell with some water and detergent into the juicer, and the broken egg shell can be cleaned after polishing for a few minutes, and then rinse with water.
- Anti-inflammatory and analgesic. Crushed egg shell is used for external application, which has the effect of treating trauma and diminishing inflammation.
- Treat scalds. If the body is slightly scalded, you can apply a thin layer of egg film and egg white in the egg shell to the skin wound, and replace it once a day to relieve the pain. The wound can be healed after 3-5 days.
- Remove scale. The kettle with boiled water has a thick layer of scale, which is hard to remove. You can remove the egg shell by boiling it twice.
- Wipe glass and furniture. Immersion of fresh egg shells in water will produce mixed solution of protein and water, wipe glass and furniture to increase luster.
- Plant flowers as fertilizer. Pour the water for eggshell washing into the flowerpot, which will help the growth of flowers and trees. Crush the eggshell and put it in the flowerpot, which can not only maintain water, but also provide nutrients for flowers. Then put a new eggshell to clean out the old eggshell.
